Lac Ste. Anne County has updated an overland flood alert as additional rainfall is expected over the next few days.
The county says crews will continue monitoring roads, culverts, drainage infrastructure and other areas of concern and make proactive preparations where possible.
Standing water and saturated grounds from last weekend’s rain mean road conditions could change rapidly. Officials say motorists should avoid travel when possible, but be prepared for changing conditions, and respect crews and signage in the area if you do.
According to the Alberta Emergency Alert, these instructions are effective until at least the end of the day on Monday, June 29.
Residents of the county are also encouraged to prepare their property for the coming rain by doing the following:
- Check that sump pumps and septic systems are working properly.
- Clear ditches and drainage paths on your property where it is safe to do so.
- Monitor low-lying areas for standing water and move valuables or equipment if necessary.
- Check downspouts on your eaves to ensure flow moves away from your foundations.
- Check your basement for water.
The county recommends monitoring weather forecasts and county updates via its official communications channels. Officials also ask residents to get assistance when necessary and dial 911 in an emergency.
