Site preparation for new multi-use courts at Festival Park in Whitecourt begins today, July 30.
An area south of the Jumbo Jumper will be barricaded, with work expected to continue into early September.
The town says the new courts will accommodate pickleball, basketball, badminton, tennis and ball hockey.
Festival Way and the Jumbo Jumper will remain open during the construction period.
Work is expected to take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, work on the Highway 43 Revitalization Project also began this week.
The town says the project includes planting on both sides of the highway between 53 Avenue and Riverboat Park Road in an effort to make the corridor more visually welcoming. It is partly funded through the Green Municipal Fund’s Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative.
Work began July 29 and is expected to continue between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. until Sept. 4.
As a result, the parking lane along Caxton Street west and Kepler Street west, from 53 Avenue to Riverboat Park, will be closed.
Construction on 55 Avenue between Mink Creek Road and Atkinson Crescent also began last week and should be complete by Aug. 10.
