Construction season is ramping up in Whitecourt with several projects soon to be underway until the fall.
Over the next few weeks, the town will announce details about upcoming projects, including overlay work at various locations; reconstructing the 53 Avenue and Legion Street intersection; extending the pathway along Mink Creek Road, connecting Rock Ridge Point and McIllwaine Drive; and the extension of the sidewalk along 49 Avenue between 47 Street and 49 Street.
Phase Three and Four of the concrete rehabilitation on 55 Avenue began July 22. The project began in 2024 and was initially estimated to take four years, but the town says it received additional grant funding and was fast-tracked to be completed this year.
By the end of this construction season, town officials say the majority of the sidewalk from 39 Street through Mink Creek Road should be replaced.
On July 22, crews also started replacing the sidewalk on the north side of 55 Avenue from Atkinson Crescent to Mink Creek Road.
As the work is complete, parking and driveway access may occasionally be restricted. The work is scheduled to occur between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. until Aug. 10.
The Town of Whitecourt says updates will be shared on its website and Facebook page.
