Although the flood alert is still in effect, positive progress is being made to address multiple road closures in Lac Ste. Anne County.
Over the June 20-21 weekend, heavy rains caused overland flooding, washouts and other travel challenges in the county. As a result, multiple roads were closed.
The county says crews continue to make progress in addressing these challenges, leading to the temporary opening of the following roads as of June 23:
- Township Road 564 from Highway 33 to Range Road 25
- The intersection of Township Road 551 and Range Road 61
- 54515 Range Road 12 in the Tuscany Hills Subdivision
In the meantime, the following roads remain closed:
- Township Road 540 between Range Roads 31 and 32
- Township Road 574A from the Town of Mayerthorpe to Highway 43
- 53523 Range Road 20
- Township Road 540 from Highway 43 to Range Road 20
County officials also say crews have identified 13 new road locations to monitor. While work is completed to assess and repair those areas, motorists are asked to slow down and use extra caution; standing water, soft shoulders and ongoing work may result in narrowed roadways.
Otherwise, a 60 per cent vehicle axle weight restriction that went into effect on June 21 has been temporarily lifted, but officials say restrictions may be reinstated depending on changes in weather and road conditions.
County residents are still advised to avoid non-essential travel, and those who do should prepare for delays, detours and quickly changing conditions.
