Farmer and pipeline installer Landen Tischer has been announced as the Alberta NDP candidate for the Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock riding in the upcoming Alberta election on May 29, 2023.
“People in rural Alberta keep this province moving, and they believe in hard work, equal opportunity, and want strong and safe communities. Rural Albertans deserve a stable, caring, and competent government, and that is what the Alberta NDP is offering,” said Tischer. “So many of the UCP’s policies have hurt communities like Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock, and I am ready to get to work and build a better future for this community as part of the Alberta NDP.”
Theparty says Tischer is the lead at a horizontal drilling company, installing pipelines and underground utilities. Tischer also farms 300 acres of wheat and canola with his family’s farm.
“I have lived in Barrhead my whole life and I share in the struggles that people are up against in rural Alberta,” said Tischer. “I want to help bring economic prosperity back to rural Albertans who do the hard work of getting our resources out to the world.
“I also want to ensure that our community is safe and happy, and the best way to do that is to make sure people are supported through education, resources, and healthcare.”
The Alberta NDP says Tischer has spent his free time volunteering on a teen crisis line, working with the music program at his church, at co-op community events and caring for neighbours landscaping.
Tischer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theology with a major in pastoral leadership, and after completing his schooling worked as a support worker for people with complex needs.
Tischer lives in Barrhead with his wife and daughter.
“People here are worried about getting the healthcare they need, they’re worried about affording their bills at the end of the month, and want to know that the province is working towards a better future with exciting opportunities for our kids,” said Tischer.
“I am ready to work with the Alberta NDP to end the chaos in healthcare and bring real relief to families struggling through the worst cost of living in 40 years. I am ready to work hard for the people in this community I have always called home.”
The current MLA for the Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock constituency is UCP MLA Glenn Van Dijken.
