Woodlands County is taking a moment to honour its very first reeve.
The County has announced that Doug Borg has passed away.
Borg was first elected as a board member for Improvement District 15 in 1989. When the Improvement District was incorporated as Woodlands County in 1994, Borg was selected to be the first reeve. He also served as reeve from 1998 through 2004, representing Division 7 – Fort Assiniboine.
Borg also worked in various roles for the Town of Swan Hills, including chief administrative officer. In Oct. 2021, Borg served as the chief returning officer for Swan Hills’ municipal election.
But Borg continued to make his home in Fort Assiniboine. He was a well-known local historian, who frequently passed on his stories of the region to visitors at the Fort Assiniboine Museum. For his contributions to Woodlands County’s agricultural community, he was given the Agricultural Pioneer Award.
To honour Borg, all flags at Woodlands County buildings will be flying at half-mast until his service.
