Fort Assiniboine is getting ready to celebrate its bicentennial, and they hope Woodlands County will help them plan the party.
At Woodlands County council’s June 22, 2022 meeting, council directed administration to support the Fort Assiniboine Friendship Club in creating the 2023 Fort Assiniboine Bicentennial Committee.
The plan is that the County can help out the committee with some of the administrative tasks, such as applying for grants.
Councillor Peter Kulkien was supportive of the idea, noting there are people in County administration with the necessary expertise.
“This is just a good way to take the next step,” said Kulkien.
Council approved the motion.
Woodlands County formed a similar partnership with Athabasca River Voyageur Canoe Brigade for Canada 150 when they came sailing through Fort Assiniboine in 2017.
