Woodlands County is doing their part to keep the fourth estate alive.
At Woodlands County council’s June 8, 2022 meeting, County council approved $15,000 in funding to the Woodlands Express.
The Woodlands Express is a community newspaper published in Fort Assiniboine. Woodlands County has been providing funding for the paper since 1995.
Councillor Peter Kulkien was impressed with the paper’s financials.
“They have been operating really well within that framework,” said Kulkien. “It is always very close to that eleven and twelve thousand. This year, they did have a little bit more. It has been in line with what we have been giving them.”
According to County administration, the $15,000 in funding has been consistent for the past four years. Administration is also working on a three year agreement with the Woodlands Express so the funding will not have to be approved by Council on an annual basis.
