One person is dead following a traffic accident on the Yellowhead Highway near Niton Junction.
Edson RCMP report that, on Jan. 5, 2022 at around 6:35 p.m., they responded to a call of a two vehicle collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 16 near Range Road 130.
Also responding were the RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstruction, Yellowhead County Fire Department, Yellowhead County Peace Officers, and EMS.
RCMP have shared the findings of their preliminary investigation. It shows that a small passenger car was heading westbound and collided with the rear of a westbound semi. The semi had entered the highway and was speeding up, when it was struck by the car.
The driver of the car was its sole occupant and had to be extricated by fire crews. The driver, a 37-year old man from Edson, was declared dead at the scene. The name of the deceased will not be released.
The driver of the semi was not physically injured.
Edson RCMP and RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstruction continue to investigate, however, they anticipate there will be no charges.
