It’s a busy weekend for hockey, as most of the leagues are back from Christmas break.
The Whitecourt Wolverines will be waiting a little longer to play their first home games of 2022. They were slated to play the Lloydminister Bobcats in a two game series, but the games have been postponed due to COVID-related issues.
We will share the new game times when they become available.
The Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League returns to action, and the Fox Creek Ice Kings and Edson Eagles are good to go.
The Fox Creek Ice Kings start 2022 with two home games. Jan. 7, the High Prairie Red Wings come to Fox Creek. High Prairie remains undefeated this season, with a record of 24-0-0.
On Jan. 9, the Slave Lake Icedogs pay a visit to the Fox Creek Greenview Multiplex. The Icedogs are currently fourth in the Western Division, with 22 points and a record of 11-13-0.
The Ice Kings are right behind in fifth place, with 20 points and a record of 10-14-0.
The Edson Eagles start the New Year at home, as the Northern Alberta Tomahawks stop in at the Edson and District Leisure Centre on Jan. 7. The Tomahawks are currently second in the Western Division, with 37 points and a record of 17-4-3.
The Eagles then make their first road trip of 2022 on Jan. 8, heading up to High Prairie to face the Red Wings. High Prairie is currently undefeated, but Fox Creek might change that at their Jan. 7 game.
The Eagles are still sitting comfortably in third place in the Western division, with 27 points and a record of 12-7-3.
In the Western States Hockey League, the Barrhead Bombers start 2022 with a home game. Jan. 9, the Cold Lake Aeros stop by the Barrhead Agrena. The Aeros are currently at the top of the Provincial Division, with 45 points and a record of 13-2-3.
The Barrhead Bomber are currently in fifth place, with 19 points and a record of 3-10-6.
