Woodlands County is gearing up for the 2022 construction season.
At their Dec. 8 meeting, council awarded their bridge maintenance contract to Bridgemen Services Ltd.
Bridgemen will have the contract to conduct repairs on four bridges in Woodlands County.
The first one is in the Goose Lake area. It will require a complete road closures as girders are removed and replaced.
The second one is northwest of Fort Assiniboine. This one requires the girders to be removed to replace the timber caps.
The third is southwest of Blue Ridge along Range Road 101. This one includes wooden pile repairs, wheel guard repairs, and miscellaneous additional repairs.
The final one is located east of Whitecourt on Trestle Road and also includes replacement of the timber caps, and other miscellaneous repairs.
Bridgemen’s winning bid was for $271,550, plus a 10 per cent contingency.
Council expressed concern that the bid seemed rather low for all the repairs involved. Administration assured them that engineering firm MPA Engineering has used them in the past, and speaks highly of them.
Council approved the contract. Council also approved a contract of $62,628 to MPA Engineering for the engineering fees on the project.
