Woodlands County council has amended the proposed special events and community standards bylaws following public engagement.
Council amended Special Events Bylaw 641/26 to increase the event attendance threshold requiring a permit to 250 people from 100.
The requirement to submit special event permits to the county at least 60 days before the proposed event date was also reduced to 30 days for non-commercial events. Administration was also given discretion to waive application deadlines for extenuating circumstances, such as a funeral.
For Community Standards Bylaw 634/25, council restored the proposed evening noise restriction start time to 10 p.m. from 9 p.m.
The county held open houses in Fort Assiniboine, Blue Ridge, Anselmo and Whitecourt over Sept. 14-18 to collect public feedback on the bylaws. Zero residents attended the Anselmo meeting, four attended the Whitecourt event, 17 were present in Blue Ridge and 23 attended discussions in Assiniboine.
The amended bylaws will return to council for second and third readings at a future council meeting.
The amendments were passed during council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 8. You can watch the full meeting below:
