Woodlands County’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Matthew Ferris has been named CAO of the Year in Canada for 2026.
The award is distributed by Gov Business Review Canada.
Ferris joined the Woodlands County team in January 2025. At that point, capital project completion was at about 34 per cent. By the end of the year, it reached about 89 per cent. According to his interview with the awarding organization, Ferris accomplished this change by identifying gaps between the county’s strategic plan and the day-to-day work expected of employees. Priorities are now tied to an annual work plan and a named position to make progress more visible.
Ferris has experience in planning, development and broader administration. He is also pursuing certifications in economic development and change management to further develop his planning skills.
Woodlands County council congratulated Ferris for the award during its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 24.
