A Yellowhead County resident has been arrested following an alleged shoplifting incident in Edson.
On Sept. 20, the Edson RCMP responded to a report of shoplifting at a business near 2 Avenue in Edson.
Through their investigation, police say they obtained video footage of a 34-year-old male Yellowhead County resident.
Officers located the individual and attempted to make an arrest that evening, but the suspect reportedly fled on foot in the 54 Street area.
The RCMP says that sometime during the foot pursuit of the suspect, he pulled out a machete, but shortly after, he was unable to keep running. The police say he was arrested without further incident.
The individual was charged with theft under $5,000, resisting a police officer and failing to comply with probation conditions (x3). He was brought before a justice of the peace, remanded into custody and is due in the Alberta Court of Justice in Jasper on Sept. 24.
