Yellowhead County council has approved a revised construction schedule for the YCE Multiplex that maintains the planned demolition date for the existing pool.
Due to extended winter conditions, record spring rainfall and a health and safety incident that required a contractor to be replaced, the county says construction of the new YCE Multiplex pool is expected to be about five weeks behind schedule.
County administration says extending the schedule and delaying the planned demolition of the existing pool could add $175,000 to $300,000 to the project costs.
To avoid these additional costs and maintain the planned demolition date in April 2027, council has approved a schedule recovery strategy that will result in a seven-week interruption to pool operations, including five weeks to recover from construction delays and two weeks to transition operations from the current pool to the new Aquatics Centre.
The county acknowledges this disruption will affect aquatic programming and public access, but says it supports delivering the project within the council-approved budget framework.
Council approved the decision during its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 8.
