Whitecourt’s new Canfor Culture and Events Centre is expected to open in October.
The project has been under construction for about two years.
Located in downtown Whitecourt, the facility includes spaces for conferences, trade shows, concerts, dance festivals, ceremonies and other events. It also features a theatre located in the arts, culture and convention centre, a library and a town administration office.
The town will open the facility in phases, starting with the arts, culture and convention centre portion of the building. Doors open Oct. 15 for the first scheduled event.
The administration office is expected to open in November, followed by the library.
“Having a soft opening and moving in stages will allow contractors to complete final touches and provide for efficient use of resources to assist with moving,” comments Whitecourt Mayor Ray Hilts. “The arts, culture and convention centre has a number of events scheduled in October which will allow members of the public to visit and experience the space, and then we plan to host a grand opening event in the coming months so that we can showcase the entire facility to the region.”
The town says Clark Builders is finalizing the construction and should move off the site in the coming weeks. In the meantime, specialized contractors will also be present to ensure the facility is fit for public use.
