Two individuals have been arrested following a confrontation in Woodlands County that allegedly involved a firearm.
On Sept. 4, Whitecourt RCMP received a 911 call reporting a confrontation involving a firearm in Woodlands County.
According to the complainant’s report, they had located a male and female riding a quad on and damaging their property. The complainant said one suspect presented a handgun, fired it in the air, then pointed it at the complainant. The two individuals then reportedly left the area after loading the ATV into a cube van.
Members of the Whitecourt RCMP and Whitecourt Traffic Services, Mayerthorpe RCMP and the RCMP Emergency Response Team searched the area and located the suspects with assistance from the RCMP Real Time Operations Centre.
As a result, two individuals were arrested and charged.
Richard Helewka, a 45-year-old Whitecourt resident, was charged with:
- Pointing a firearm
- Discharge a firearm with intent
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a weapon contrary to order
- Alter/destroy/remove a vehicle identification number (VIN)
- Fail to comply with undertaking
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of a firearm with tampered serial number
- Mischief under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Uttering threats
- Disguise with intent to commit an offence
- Careless use of a firearm
- Assault with a weapon
Alanda Sisson, a 31-year-old Woodlands County resident, was also charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Alter/destroy/remove a vehicle identification number (VIN)
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of a firearm with tampered serial number
- Possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon without licence
Both individuals were brought before a justice of the peace. Helewka was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on Sept. 8. Sisson was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.
