Two individuals have been arrested and charged in relation to an alleged aggravated assault in Whitecourt.
On Aug. 9, Whitecourt RCMP responded to a report of an assault, where a male was found with serious injuries.
Police say EMS transported him to an Edmonton hospital.
Following an investigation, officers say they received information about unreported firearm discharges and identified three suspects.
Police executed a search warrant on Sept. 4, leading to the arrest of two individuals. The RCMP says warrants are being sought for the third individual, and charges are expected to be laid in the future.
William Desjarlais, 36, was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated assault
- Assault with a weapon
- Unlawful confinement
- Possession of a firearm without a licence (x3)
- Reckless discharge of a firearm
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Careless use of a firearm
- Use of a firearm in the commission of an offence
- Possession of a controlled substance (x2)
- Possession of body armour without a permit
He was remanded into custody and was set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on Sept. 8.
Police also arrested 30-year-old Joyelle Kerr, who is charged with aggravated assault and unlawful confinement.
Kerr is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on Sept. 22.
