Three Whitecourt residents have been arrested in connection with a retail theft investigation.
On Aug. 4, the Whitecourt RCMP executed a search warrant at a Whitecourt residence as part of an investigation.
During the search, police reported finding controlled substances that were later identified as more than 150 grams of cocaine and more than 30 grams of fentanyl.
As a result, three Whitecourt residents have been arrested.
A 34-year-old male resident was charged with:
- Theft under $5,000 (x2)
- Three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking (x3)
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2)
He was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on Sept. 8.
Another male resident, 51, was also charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
A 40-year-old female resident was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking as well.
The 51-year-old male and 40-year-old female were also brought before a justice of the peace, but released on conditions. The male is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on Sept. 8, and the female was scheduled to appear in the same court on Aug. 25.
“We understand that property crime and drug trafficking were major concerns brought up during our community consultations,” said Staff Sgt. Matthew Clarke, Detachment Commander, Whitecourt RCMP. “This is why these priorities have become a part of the Detachment’s current Community Priorities Plan. We are hard at work locating, investigating and arresting those who would commit these crimes in our community.”
