The County of Barrhead is among 128 communities across Canada in line to receive federal funding aimed at increasing its climate resilience.
On Aug. 12, 2026, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities announced 141 municipal adaptation projects receiving around $34.2 million through the Green Municipal Fund’s Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation initiative.
Officials say these projects include adaptation plans, climate-focused asset management strategies, comprehensive risk assessments, program design studies for adaptation financing and implementation projects in municipalities across the country.
According to a news release, the County of Barrhead will receive $70,000 for “valuing natural assets for climate resilience”.
The federal government say the projects were selected following a call for applications that was launched in June 2024.
Officials say the investments made through the Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation initiative help advance the Government of Canada Adaptation Action Plan and the National Adaptation Strategy and support municipalities across Canada to build long-term climate resilience.
