Whitecourt golfer competing at 2026 Canadian All Abilities Championship

A golfer from Whitecourt is competing in the 2026 Canadian All Abilities Championship at the Hylands Golf Club in Gloucester, ON, this week.

Officials note, its the sixth playing of the national championship and features a field of 66 players and will be a 54-hole championship with both Gross Stroke Play and Net Stableford competitions.

This year’s championship will feature playing divisions that will be based on EDGA Sport Class, each player who is eligible will be assigned to compete in a division. The different sport classes include sitting 1 and 2, standing 1, 2, and 3, intellectual 1 and 2, and visual 1 and 2. In addition, tee assignments will be based on Gender and Sport Class this year.

There are two different competitions, Gross Stroke Play and Net Stableford. In those two competitions there are four different divisions in the Canadian All Abilities Championship that players will compete in: Women’s Gross Stroke Play; Women’s Net Stableford; Men’s Gross Stroke Play and Men’s Net Stableford, in addition to their respective sport class.

“We are proud and excited to begin the sixth playing of the Canadian All Abilities Championship at Hylands Golf Club with a field that is comprised of several past national champions and those with international tournament experience,” said Golf Canada Tournament Director Daniel Suppa. “The national championship features a gross stroke play division and net stableford division that provides an even opportunity for the field competing in the national championship. We are grateful to the staff and volunteers at the Hylands Golf Club for their efforts to ensure the players leave Gloucester with a memorable experience.”

Hylands Golf Club is a private 36-hole facility in the nation’s capital. The South Course was built in 1963, and the North Course was built in 1972. Hylands Golf Club is part of the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Program where they provide an affordable, enjoyable, first-class golf venue in the National Capital Region for Canadian Forces personnel and their families, and others wo may be accepted as members into the club.

First conducted in 2021 at Humber Valley Golf Course in Toronto, Ont., the All Abilities Championship supports Golf Canada’s commitment to create a more inclusive and respectful sport environment across the Canadian golf community.

The Stableford scoring format of the Canadian All Abilities Championship awards set points based off a golfer’s net score for the hole. The points will be awarded as follows: Albatross (5 points), Eagle (4 points), Birdie (3 points), Par (2 points), Bogey (1 point), Double Bogey or higher (0 points). The golfers with the highest total of accumulated points over 54-holes will win their respective divisions.

The national championship reflects Golf Canada’s commitment to providing competitive opportunities and advancing inclusion within the game.

Championship rounds begin on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
