A local minor baseball team is basking in the glow of a provincial championship over the Heritage Day long weekend.
The Whitecourt 11U AA Tier 3 Royals won the provincial title 5-3 over the Irma Tigers at Graham Acres Park in Whitecourt on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026.
The Royals eliminated the Acme Red Sox 11-1 in the semi-final earlier that day, to advance to the championship game.
The six-team tournament also featured the SJP Jays, Okotoks Outlaws, and Innisfail Hawks who won the consolation final 15-0 over Okotoks.
