Whitecourt hosted the 18U AA Tier 7 Baseball Alberta Provincial Championships over the weekend, and the Whitecourt Royals secured the championship with a 4-0 win over the Edmonton Angels.
On July 24, the Royals started Friday’s action with a narrow 9-8 loss to the Edmonton Angels, but recovered that evening with a 6-5 win against the Lac La Biche Dodgers.
The team kept that momentum up Saturday, when they beat the St. Paul Storm 16-6. The team also toppled the Clive Coyotes with a 3-1 victory Sunday, before moving on to shut out the Angels in the championship.
The Provincial Championship MVP award for the division went to Cam Johnson, #24.
On the road in Edmonton for the U15 AA Tier 5 championship, the Whitecourt Royals again came out on top after beating the Sylvan Lake Mariners 13-8.
Saturday, July 25, the Royals started strong with a 17-8 victory over the Calgary City Royals White, before taking the SJP Jays 14-11 in the semifinal on Sunday.
The 13U AA Tier 6 Championship was also hosted in Whitecourt.
The Whitecourt Royals made it to the semifinals after a 19-9 loss to the Rocky Sundevils, followed by a 12-7 victory over the Parkland Twins White.
They were knocked out of the semifinal after falling 14-2 to the St. Albert Cardinals.
The championship victory went to the St. Albert Cardinals, who beat the Rocky Sundevils 28-5.
Next, Whitecourt hosts the championships for the 11U AA Tier 3 from July 31 to August 2.
