Whitecourt Public Transit’s new express route launches Tuesday, Aug. 4.
While the regular hourly loop will remain the same, the new express route will replace the current peak service schedule.
The change comes following a review by Watt Consulting Group, which reviewed existing networks and engaged with staff to propose new route options in an effort to better serve the community’s travel needs.
Details of the new route are available on the town’s website.

Mayor Ray Hilts says the route change is a part of several infrastructure projects related to enhancing transit accessibility and connectivity, supported by funding from the Rural Transit Solutions Fund and the Canada Public Transit Fund.
“Along with the express route, transit riders will also see transit shelter and sidewalk upgrades at bus stop locations throughout the community, and new buses will be arriving in early 2027,” he comments.
Angela Mitchell, Manager of Family and Community Support Services, says the new route will serve the majority of youth transit riders as well as high-demand stops. She adds, it is launching in the summer to give students and parents time to familiarize themselves with the new service before the next school year.
