Alberta Health Services (AHS) has issued a water quality advisory for Alberta Beach in Lac Ste. Anne County.
Due to elevated levels of bacteria, AHS is advising the public not to swim or wade at this beach, effective immediately.
AHS says a test of the lake water found elevated levels of bacteria, which could cause gastrointestinal illness. Skin, eye and ear infections are reportedly also possible following contact with the water.
Visitors and residents of Alberta Beach are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water from any body of water at any time; water-borne organisms, including fecal bacteria, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
AHS says this advisory is in effect until further notice.
