The Town of Whitecourt will be a busy place in June.
Jaimee Sutton, recreation coordinator for the Town of Whitecourt, says they have quite a few different events happening next month that are free for residents to try out in the spirit of Participaction.
She notes a calendar on the Allan & Jean Millar Centre Facebook page that has a list of all the activities.
“It’s not just us hosting events, there’s also other organizations hosting events that we’re trying to promote as well, just to get the whole community active as much as possible,” she explains.
Sutton points out, the town could win $100,000 if community uptake is high.
“There’s a couple different ways individually. You can just go on to Participaction’s website and register and then log any activity that you do yourself or you and your friends might do,” explains Sutton. “But then also as an organization, the Town of Whiitecourt has a page that we’ll be tracking numbers of what people are going to be doing and we’re also asking that if any organizations are doing anything and want us to track it, they can scan a QR code that we have on our posters and we can get them to fill out a form online.”
The Participaction kick-off party – the Community Fun Night, is June 6 from 5:30-8:30 p.m..
“We thought we would partner up to get together on that one,” says Sutton. “So we’re having our Community Fun Night at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre. All the information on Participaction will be there, as well as the inflatable obstacle course that we have that Tim Hortons sponsors. We’re going to have some fun games, activities, and getting everybody active there as well.
Mr. AJ Nutterbutter is also back. He’s a stuffed squirrel.
“He is going to be hiding on the trails of Whitecourt,” shares Sutton. “Each week, he’s going to be hiding on a different trail and we will post clues on which trail he’ll be on, on our Allan & Jean Millar Centre Facebook page, as well as at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre at Guest Services if you’re not on Facebook. We’ll have a little page of clues for everybody to go and find AJ Nutterbutter!”
Throughout June, get a selfie with AJ, post it online, and you’ll be entered into the draw.
In addition, a Pride event is also taking place at Festival Park from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday, June 5.
“This event couldn’t go on without our amazing sponsor, Pembina, who puts on that free barbecue for us there,” she exclaims. “We do have free transit that day for getting to the event if people need.”
