The Town of Whitecourt will be forwarding a letter to the provincial government encouraging greater autonomy for municipalities to determine locations for Automated Traffic Enforcement.
Town officials say Automated Traffic Enforcement throughout Alberta is regulated by the provincial government, and all locations must be approved by the province.
Each year, Whitecourt prepares an annual report for the Automated Traffic Enforcement Program (photo radar) which is available on the town’s website.
Town officials say the program aims to help promote safer driving habits, enhance public awareness, and contribute to the overall safety of residents.
Council approved that a letter be sent to the province during their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
