Local youth have an opportunity this weekend to try out the sport of fishing.
On Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., members of the Whitecourt Fish and Game Association (WFGA) will be at Whitecourt Pond in Festival Park.
WFGA members will be on site to assist youth in fishing. Organizers say they will have fishing equipment available to loan or anglers can bring their own.
Officials note, there is no registration and no fees. Just show up and have fun.
However, there are some special rules that apply to fishing at Whitecourt Pond:
- Adults may fish at the pond but they must be accompanied by a person under 16-years-old.
- All Provincial Sportfishing Regulations apply when fishing at Whitecourt Pond, including the requirement to have a current Alberta Sportfishing Licence if you are 16 years of age or older. Seniors 65 years of age or older do not require a Sportfishing Licence.
