Nine outstanding students were recognized this week by the Alberta School Boards Association with the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Award.
Among them: Sarah Tran, a Grade 6 student at École St. Mary School, which is in the Living Waters Catholic Separate School Division.
Per the ASBA:
“As an English language learner, Sarah has demonstrated remarkable determination in her learning, often investing extra time to translate, study and seek additional support. She advocates confidently for her learning needs, approaches challenges with tenacity and leads by example. Her dedication has resulted in meaningful academic growth, strong organizational skills and consistently high standards of work. Sarah is also a caring and inclusive leader who supports peers academically and personally, welcoming others and fostering a positive classroom community.”
The awards recognize students from across Alberta who have shown tremendous growth in developing skills to better themselves through determination and initiative, leading to their improvement and success both academically and personally.
A ceremony took place May 11 at Government House in Edmonton, presided over by Lieutenant Governor Salma Lakhani.
Recipients get an award certificate, a unique medal and a one-time $500 bursary.
