Monday, May 11, is Spring Cleanup Day in the Town of Barrhead.
A garbage collection team from the town will collect old appliances or furniture that residents leave by the curb over the weekend.
Residents can begin placing items outside on May 9, and they must be in place by 8 a.m. on Monday to be picked up.
Officials ask participants to place their items close to the curb, rather than on the road or sidewalk, and note there will be no alley pickups.
Each resident can discard the following household items:
- Electronics
- Three to four large appliances or furniture items per household
- Six to eight large bags with a maximum weight of 55 lb/bag
- Branches cut into four-foot lengths and bundled with twine
The following rules also apply:
- All appliances must have doors or lids removed and Freon or other refrigerants recovered and tagged with a regulatory sticker by a certified refrigeration specialist.
- Ensure electronics are separated from other household waste.
- No demolition or construction materials, such as wood, concrete, cabinets, etc.
- No commercial or industrial waste.
- No large tires (i.e., tractor tires).
- No compost, such as grass, food waste, dirt, rocks, etc.
- No oils, hydrocarbons, antifreeze or other toxic materials or substances, and no automotive parts.
- No tree stumps.
- No overly large items, such as car body parts, garage doors, etc.
- No biological waste, such as human or animal waste and diapers, etc.
- No stock piles of goods; any large piles will only have a reasonable amount loaded.
- All items must be contained and not left loose.
If eligible items are not collected on May 11, they will likely be collected in the following days depending on the volume of curbside items around town.
Officials note items left behind that do not adhere to the above rules will not be collected, and the owner will need to remove them from the curb to avoid ticking or fines. Additionally, any items placed outside after the collection deadline will not be picked up.
