Edson town council has approved a revised 2026 Operating Budget and the 2026 Mill Rate Bylaw.
Revisions were made to the operating budget during council’s April 7 meeting, but a late addition from Yellowhead County for 911 dispatch was considered on April 21. This and other spring adjustments brought the 2026 Operating Budget to $28,309,493 in revenues and $43,317,751 in expenses, excluding amortization of $5,660,540. It also includes $70,593,944 in both capital revenues and expenses.
The revisions were approved by council during its regularly scheduled meeting on May 5, resulting in a municipal tax levy requirement of $15,008,258.
To collect this total and balance the budget, the municipal property tax rate was also approved with an increase of 2.4 per cent, down slightly from the 2.7 per cent projected in the interim budget passed last fall.
For a residential property assessed at $350,000, this will result in an average monthly increase of $7.03.
A non-residential property assessed at $1.5 million will see an average monthly increase of $30.11.
Of the residential taxes collected, the town says 28 per cent is allocated to the Alberta government for education, five per cent to the Evergreens Foundation and 66 per cent to the municipality. From non-residential taxes, 20 per cent contributes to provincial education, three per cent to the Evergreens Foundation, and 77 per cent to Edson.
