Due to sustained winds and a lack of forecasted rain, Barrhead County’s fire chief has upgraded the fire restriction in place to a fire ban.
Under the ban, backcountry campfires, fireworks, exploding targets, tiki torches and oil lamps are prohibited.
Additionally, permits for large burn pits, burn barrels and incinerators are now suspended, and no new fire permits will be issued.
Residents may still have a campfire in a backyard or propane fire pit, and use gas, pellet or charcoal barbecues and stoves.
The Barrhead Regional Fire Department also reminds residents:
- All fire pits are to be extinguished after use.
- Smoking materials are to be extinguished before discarding.
- Residents who had permits for brush piles or large burns over the winter shall inspect the burn area for holdover fires and extinguish them.
- Use extreme caution when driving in grassy areas and be mindful of debris collecting on hot exhaust.
