The Whitecourt Wolverines have lost their playoff series to the Canmore Eagles 4-1, falling 2-1 on Saturday night.
The Eagles opened the scoring in period one, but Cole Barrett tied it 1-1 for the Wolverines at 13:15 with his second goal of the postseason. Nolan Schmidt assisted.
In the second frame, Canmore scored again at 6:18 for a 2-1 lead and kept up a tight defence until the buzzer sounded.
The loss wasn’t for a lack of effort, with the Wolverines outshooting Canmore 40-22.
JDA Place was also high energy, with nearly 1,093 people in the stands.
This is the first Inter Pipeline Cup win for the Canmore Eagles in their franchise history.
The Whitecourt Wolverines bested the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 4-1 in the quarterfinals and the Grande Prairie Storm 4-3 in the semis, before being ousted by the Eagles in the finals.
