One Stony Plain resident and one Onoway resident were recently arrested by Parkland RCMP after an alleged attempt to steal a vehicle.
On April 10, Parkland RCMP received a complaint from a building manager, stating an individual was checking vehicle door handles in an underground parking area in Spruce Grove. When police arrived at the location, they were told two male suspects were in a Jeep Cherokee in the parking area.
When officers entered the parking garage, the suspect vehicle allegedly tried to evade police aggressively, maneuvering around the police vehicle. The suspects stopped and were arrested without incident once they noticed the exit was blocked by a second police vehicle, the RCMP report.
As a result, a 42-year-old Onoway resident was charged with:
- Break and enter
- Mischief under $5,000 damage to motor vehicle
- Possess break-in instruments
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Operation while prohibited
- Flight from peace officer
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
- Possession of methamphetamine
He was remanded into custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for April 15 in the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert.
A 31-year-old Stony Plain resident was also charged with:
- Break and enter
- Mischief under $5,000 damage to motor vehicle
- Possess break-in instruments
He was released, with his next court appearance also on Apr. 15 at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert.
