Whitecourt traffic unit officers recently arrested a Spirit River resident following the alleged observation of weapons and drug paraphernalia in their vehicle.
On April 6, Alberta RCMP Traffic’s Whitecourt Unit was patrolling Highway 43 in the Municipal District of Greenview, near Fox Creek. During the patrol, officers say they observed a damaged vehicle parked in a roadside pullout with a driver slumped over the steering wheel.
Police approached to check the driver’s well-being and, while speaking with him, allegedly observed illegal items in plain view, leading to his arrest.
Following his arrest, police conducted a search and reportedly seized:
- A sawed-off .410 shotgun
- Ammunition
- A set of aluminum knuckle dusters (brass knuckles)
- A quantity of drug paraphernalia
As a result, a Sprit River resident was arrested and charged with numerous firearms and weapons-related offences. He was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions, with an appearance scheduled in the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on April 28.
