Whitecourt town council recently awarded two contracts covering work at the Allan and Jean Millar Centre and Highway 43 to successful applicants.
During its regularly scheduled meeting at the end of March, council awarded the contract to replace boilers at the Allan and Jean Millar Centre to Total Plumbing and Heating Ltd. for $535,700 plus GST.
The project will see the open vent boilers currently used for water heating, aquatic operations and hydronic facility heating replaced with condensing boilers. The town says the project will save on energy costs and reduce emissions. As such, it is also 50 per cent funded by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre Community Energy Conservation Program.
The contract for the Highway 43 Vitalization Phase 1 Project was also awarded to Hedgehog Enterprises Ltd. for $370,417.50 plus GST.
Between 53 Avenue and Riverboat Park Road, on Highway 43, the town is planning to install 17 raised planting beds.
Town officials say the project will improve the community’s appearance, making it more welcoming to visitors.
The project is partly funded by the Green Municipal Fund’s Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative.
