Repeat offenders from Onoway and Stony Plain have been arrested by Parkland RCMP following a spree of alleged vehicle thefts and other crimes.
Police say two prolific property offenders were released in late February after serving sentences for prior offences. One individual reportedly had a condition not to contact the other.
On March 6, a vehicle was reported stolen from a residence in Stony Plain. Officers report that a neighbour’s security footage showed two potential suspects, including a female who was seen stealing a 2007 Kia Sportage.
Later that afternoon, another vehicle was reported stolen from a parking lot in Spruce Grove. The Kia Sportage from earlier was seen arriving at the location, police say, and a male exited to allegedly steal a 2004 Ford F-350.
The following day, March 7, a business in Spruce Grove reported a break and enter, during which a Cadillac ATS sedan and keys to multiple other vehicles were reportedly stolen. Again, security footage is said to have featured the Kia Sportage and the same suspects from March 6.
March 8, a 2010 Toyota Prius was reported stolen from a church parking lot in Parkland County. Police say a Cadillac sedan was observed in the area around the same time.
Shortly after, the Cadillac and Toyota Prius were seen at a convenience store in Stony Plain. The female suspect allegedly entered and fraudulently used credit cards stolen from the Prius. Officers report a second occurence of this at another convenience store in Stony Plain as well.
March 10, Parkland RCMP members and Parkland plainclothes investigators say they seized the stolen 2004 Ford F-350 and a stolen 2024 Precision flat deck trailer from the property connected to one of the suspects. From there, the Parkland RCMP Crime Reduction Unit took over the investigation and began coordinating efforts with other partners to locate the suspects.
The K-Division Community Response Team (CRT) reportedly located the stolen Cadillac ATS in the Onoway area of Lac Ste. Anne County on March 11, with both suspects inside. The vehicle then travelled through Lac Ste. Anne and Parkland County in a dangerous manner, police say.
Following coordination with multiple RCMP units, a tire deflation device was deployed, the vehicle was disabled, and both suspects were arrested.
Footage from the RCMP Air Services helicopter is available online.
“Targeting repeat property crime offenders is a priority of ours,” says RCMP Sergeant Collin Kuca. “The Parkland Crime Reduction Unit will relentlessly pursue the individuals responsible for these activities and partner with other units to share resources and intelligence, which furthers this goal.”
