The Whitecourt Wolverines shutout the Calgary Canucks 3-0 on the road Tuesday night.
No team scored in period one, despite multiple powerplay opportunities on both sides.
In the second frame, Billy Hooson netted his second goal of the season at 10:16. Brendan Ruskowski assisted.
Ruskowski then scored on a powerplay about six minutes later, with the helpers going to Jalen Bianchet and Kyle Tucker.
Bianchet then scored his 46th goal of the season in period three. He was assisted by Jager Gugyelka.
Netminder Elliott Pratt stopped all 17 shots on goal.
Pratt’s performance follows another shutout against the Grande Prairie Storm last weekend, plus a 4-2 win against the Storm, making him the AJHL Defensive Player of the week for March 2-8.
The third-year goaltender leads the AJHL with a 2.38 GAA and 25 wins. He also sits third overall with a .915 save percentage.
With the win, the Wolverines head into the playoffs leading the regular season and the AJHL North Division. This is the third straight season the team has finished first in the north, and the second time in three seasons that it’s finished first in the AJHL standings.
