The Whitecourt Wolverines had two match ups against the Grande Prairie Storm last weekend and, after dual defeats, have slid to second place in the AJHL North Division.
The Storm now lead the division by one point, with a record of 32-13-0-2, while the Wolverines have a record of 31-11-1-2.
Friday night, the Wolverines visited the Bonnetts Energy Centre in Grande Prairie, which was packed with a crowd of 1,567 people. The Storm ultimately won 4-3 in a shootout.
No team scored in period one, but Grande Prairie netted two in the second frame. They kept that momentum going in period three with another goal for a 3-0 lead.
Wolverine Jalen Bianchet scored a powerplay goal about 11 minutes into the third frame, with assistance from Brendan Ruskowski and Kyle Tucker. It was Bianchet’s 39th goal of the season.
Whitecourt’s Jackson DeGraves scored unassisted as well, for his 10th of the season, just 12 seconds later.
At 13:47, Bianchet scored again to make it a 3-3 tie. He was assisted by Kyle Tucker and Nolan Schmidt. The game ultimately went to overtime, where no one scored.
In the shootout that followed, Rylan Bissett scored the winning goal for Grande Prairie.

On Saturday, the Wolverines fell to the Storm 3-2 in overtime at JDA Place.
The Storm scored a powerplay goal in period one, but the Wolverines Kyle Tucker tied the score up 1-1 for Whitecourt in the second frame, with Jalen Bianchet and Cole Barrett getting the helpers.
Grande Prairie scored again in the third to mkae it 2-1, but with assistance from Jalen Bianchet and Brendan Ruskowski, Wolverine Quentin Bourne answered to keep things tied at 2-2.
The match went into overtime, where Grande Prairie netted the decisive goal.
