The Whitecourt Wolverines saw their winning streak snapped by the Lloydminster Bobcats this weekend.
On Dec. 19, the Bobcats dominated the Wolverines 6-1, with Cole Barrett scoring Whitecourt’s only point at 4:58 in the first period. Brendan Ruskowski and Tristan Slywka assisted.
The Bobcats tied the Wolverines’ lead up 1-1 with 50 seconds left in the frame.
Lloydminster netted three more in period two and two in period three. The third frame also saw Wolverine Tanner Hickey earn a 10-minute penalty for misconduct.
Despite their strong points lead, Whitecourt outshot the Bobcats 29-28.
On Saturday, the Camrose Kodiaks beat the visiting Wolverines 6-4.
Camrose secured a 2-0 lead in period one, before Matt Williams scored for Whitecourt in the second at 7:44. Chayse King and Nolan Schmidt got the helpers.
That 2-1 lead for the Kodiaks was bumped to 3-1 about two minutes later.
Cole Barrett netted another for Whitecourt at 10:56 with assistance from Quentin Bourne and Tristan Slywka, bringing it to 3-2.
With one more goal from Camrose before the period was up, frame three started 4-2 in the Kodiaks’ favour.
A shorthanded goal from Camrose opened the action up for a 5-2 score two minutes in.
Whitecourt gained ground to 5-4 with two powerplay goals, with Cole Barrett scoring at 6:20 and Jager Gugyelka at 14:24. Quentin Bourne and Kyle Tucker, then Tucker and Spencer Claerhout, got the helpers.
With 1:26 left in the game, an empty net opportunity secured the 6-4 win for Camrose.
Whitecourt still leads the AJHL North Division with a record of 21-9-0-1.
