The Whitecourt Wolverines are on a three-game winning streak after Tuesday night’s match against the Devon Xtreme, where they led 4-3.
Wolverine Tristan Slywka scored the only goal in period one, with assistance from Cole Barrett.
Whitecourt continued to lead the action in period two. At 2:35, Parker Fitzgerald bumped Whitecourt to 2-0 with his first goal of the season. He was assisted by Quentin Bourne and Braden Nienaber.
Slywka netted his second goal of the night less than one minute later, with the helpers going to Mason Russell and Chayse King.
Whitecourt then reached 4-0 before the 10-minute mark thanks to a goal by Nolan Schmidt, his first in the AJHL. Jager Gugyelka and Jalen Bianchet assisted. Schmidt was reassigned from the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League earlier this week.
Then, Maddox Rose secured one for Devon at 17:05 to finish the frame 4-1 in Whitecourt’s favour.
The Xtreme’s Cooper Orrell scored twice in 20 seconds in period three, but Whitecourt maintained their 4-3 lead until the clock ran out.
The Whitecourt Wolverines are leading the AJHL’s North Division, eight points ahead with 21-7-0-1.
