The Town of Barrhead has plenty in store for residents today, Dec. 5.
The Cram-a-Cruiser event is running until 4 p.m. at the Pembina West Co-op. The town is collecting donations to support local families utilizing the Barrhead and District Family and Community Support Services Christmas programs, including:
- Non-perishable food
- Warm clothing and winter accessories
- New toys for children and youth
- Personal hygiene items
Then, at 5:30 p.m., residents will see a gentleman with a white beard and a big red belly on the roof of Scotiabank to kick off the Light Up and Polar Parade on Main Street.
The parade starts rolling at 6 p.m., and there are plenty of other activities taking place when it’s done.
Until about 9 p.m., attendees can wander to United Church for cookie decorating and crafts, to Just Go Travel for popcorn, or many of the other spots on Main Street that will be offering hot chocolate and treats. Hot dogs will also be available by donation, with the proceeds supporting community initiatives.
Kids can write a letter to Santa at Cruizy Smoothies, get a sparkle tattoo at TD Bank, or hop on a wagon or sleigh-style ride. Santa and the Grinch will also be in attendance and offering photo opportunities.
With live music by local performers crooning in the background, residents can also try their luck with the Passport to Christmas Elves: find all eight elves at the event, and you’ll be entered to win one of three prizes.
It all wraps up with a free showing of Home Alone at the Roxy Theatre.
