A Romanian national has been arrested following a traffic stop by Edson RCMP.
On Nov. 21, an Edson RCMP member conducted a traffic stop and recognized the driver of the vehicle as the suspect of an alleged theft from a local store.
The male was arrested, and police say a search revealed more than $8,500 in stolen merchandise within the vehicle. The RCMP suggest some of the merchandise was reportedly stolen from three stores in Edson, and officers suspect the individual is linked to similar investigations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
He was also allegedly in possession of a tool designed to overcome anti-theft devices from retail stores.
As a result, a 44-year-old Romanian national has been charged with:
- Theft under $5,000 (x2)
- Theft over $5,000
- Breach of release order
He was brought before a justice of the peace, remanded into custody and is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Edson on Dec. 9, 2025.
