On Friday night, the Whitecourt Wolverines toppled the Calgary Canucks 5-2 in the first of back-to-back home games.
Wolverine Kyle Tucker scored the only goal in period one. He was assisted by Wyatt Ball and Jalen Bianchet.
With help from Kyle Tucker and Jalen Bianchet, Jager Gugyelka bumped Whitecourt to 2-0 just 4:32 into period two. Calgary fired back with a goal 20 seconds later to narrow Whitecourt’s lead to 2-1.
Halfway through the frame, Whitecourt’s Brendan Ruskowski netted an unassisted shorthanded goal while Justus Chyld was in the box for roughing.
In the third, Calgary brought the score to 3-2 at 9:11. Both teams kept up their defence until 18:16 when Cole Barrett was able to score for the Wolverines. Brendan Ruskowski got the helper.
Just 19 seconds later, Whitecourt’s Mason Russell scored again while Ty Rayan assisted to secure the 5-2 victory.
On Nov. 22, the Wolverines fell 4-1 to the Canmore Eagles.
Jalen Bianchet scored a penalty shot halfway through the third frame, the team’s only goal that night. It was his 25th goal of the season.
Otherwise, the Canmore Eagles maintained the lead throughout the game with two powerplay goals and an empty-netter.
Despite the loss, the Whitecourt Wolverines still lead the North Division at 16-5-0-0.
