Whitecourt’s town council has approved a purchase of three new transit buses at a cost of $2,060,516.01, plus GST.
The buses will be purchased through Crestline Coach Ltd. and are expected to arrive in 2027, the town says.
The purchase will see $1,073,600 funded via the Canada Public Transit Fund and Rural Transit Solutions Fund, a grant program; $986,916 from Fleet Replacement Reserves; and up to $90,000 for additional modifications from the Fleet Replacement Reserve.
In 2024, Whitecourt’s transit program provided 37,137 rides. Its operations are funded by pass and ticket revenues, annual grants, bus and shelter advertising sales and Woodlands County’s cost share contribution.
The town says its transit buses are on a 12-year replacement cycle. The ones currently in operation are the first ones purchased after the town’s successful pilot program in 2014.
The decision was made during the regularly scheduled meeting of council on Nov. 10.
