A Whitecourt resident is $36 million richer after winning the latest LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball draw.
Stacey B. was born and raised in Calgary, but now operates a logging company near Hinton, where he regularly has to run to the store for supplies to keep his camp warm.
“I’m there almost every day to get propane,” Boyce said. “I usually buy my lottery tickets once a week [while I’m there].”
On one life-changing trip, he checked his LOTTO 6/49 ticket for the Oct. 15 draw, and said his jaw hit the floor when he saw the amount he’d won.
“I said, ‘Holy Cow!’” he laughed. “I actually walked out of the store and had to come back because I’d forgotten my propane bottles!”
He headed back to his job site in a daze and matched the numbers online when he arrived. First he told his cousin of the win, then his daughter, who he said immediately asked for a pony.
“I want to make sure my daughter has a comfortable life,” he said. “We’ll see about the pony,” he added, laughing.
Stacey said he intends to invest some of the winnings into his logging company, with no intention to stop working.
“It’ll definitely speed up the plans I have for my business. It’s life-changing—and hopefully for the better,” he said. “I’d really like to do some good with it. It’s a lot to wrap your head around, so I’m talking to people I trust about it.”
Stacey purchased his winning ticket from Valley Mart at 106 Market Street in Hinton. He won his prize by matching the LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball selection on October 15: 30367074-01.
