Barrhead County’s new municipal government jumped into action last week, with important roles and committee positions appointed, land sales approved and reports received.
During the Oct. 28 organizational meeting, Councillor Erik Munck was appointed to the position of reeve and Coun. Walter Preugschas to deputy reeve.
In the regular meeting that followed, council received the Community Peace Officer (CPO) Summer 2025 Enforcement Services report for information.
Between May and August 2025, Enforcement Services responded to 183 calls for service, a 29 per cent increase compared to the same time period in 2024. There were also 603 files generated across the county, a 10 per cent decrease from last year. Division 3 saw the highest number of files generated at 180, down from 204 last year.
Files primarily concerned the Animal Control Bylaw, the Traffic Safety Act, and assisting the RCMP.
Notable speeding offences occurred during the summer, including:
- 159 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone (Highway 18)
- 109 km/h in a posted 30 km/h school zone (Highway 651)
- 144 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone (Township Road 594)
Enforcement Services also noted in the report that internet connectivity throughout the county presented challenges over the summer, which will need to be explored next year. A lack of connectivity reportedly caused operational difficulties related to officer safety and system malfunctions.
In the same meeting, council also accepted a $121,000 (plus GST) offer for the sale of a 10-acre parcel within Pt. SW 15-58-2-W5, in accordance with the Municipal Government Act and Policy AD-008 – Tax Recovery Process.
