On Oct. 17, the Edson Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 4800 block of 18 Avenue.
When the first unit arrived seven minutes later, firefighters witnessed a large amount of smoke and flames below the deck, in the crawl space and in the kitchen.
Crews reportedly laid supply lines to control the fire, which was quickly brought under control. Due to the age of the building and sawdust insulation, however, an extensive overhaul of the structure was required.
The fire department responded with two engines, one heavy rescue and two command units. Firefighters were also supported by the RCMP, Emergency Medical Services, ATCO, Fortis and Edson utilities.
