A Vancouver-based developer has acquired 49 residential lots on the east side of the Town of Mayerthorpe, which should lead to new homes and a new commercial development in the community.
ACON Ventures Inc. will reportedly use the land to build homes for resale. It recently acquired an additional parcel in the area that is slated for a commercial development.
“Our town is growing and the need for housing cannot be understated,” said Mayor Janet Jabush. “It’s not just about building houses; it’s about building a vibrant community where everyone can thrive. The size and scope of the proposed developments could make us the envy of our peers across the province. I’m sincerely grateful to everyone whose hard work has enabled us to see these negotiations to fruition.”
Discussions between ACON representatives, the mayor, chief administrative officer (CAO) and a local Re/Max broker began in October 2024. During these early meetings, the town says it highlighted Mayerthorpe’s advantages, like its strong housing demand and strategic location.
“We are very excited to be investing in the Town of Mayerthorpe,” said Rahul Anand, president of ACON Ventures Inc. “From our first meeting with Mayor Jabush and CAO Leggett, we were struck by the town’s welcoming spirit, proactive leadership, and clear vision for sustainable growth. Mayerthorpe offers a unique combination of opportunity, community values, and strategic location, making it an ideal place for long-term investment. We look forward to working with the town to bring quality residential and commercial developments to Mayerthorpe that will benefit the community for years to come.”
CAO Chris Leggett said it’s a significant investment for the town, and utilizes properties that were sitting undeveloped for “a long time.”
Town officials expect the investment to improve the variety of housing options, create employment opportunities and stimulate local economic growth.
Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and continue in phases for several years.
