The emergency department at the Edson Healthcare Centre will be without on-site physician coverage from 3 p.m. Oct. 9 to 8 a.m. on Oct. 10.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) says this is a temporary situation due to a lack of clinical personnel and the inability to source other coverage.
Nursing staff will remain on location to provide triage, assessments and referrals to alternate departments as needed.
During this time, please call 911 if you have a medical emergency.
AHS is also piloting a Virtual Emergency Physician program in seven communities, including Edson. The program may be available for all or part of the service advisory.
The program connects an experienced emergency department physician with patients via telephone or videoconference to collaborate with staff, speak with patients, order tests and medications, and transfer or discharge patients.
The closure, or a portion of it, may be cancelled if coverage is found in the meantime.
